(jam) On the first day of the final rounds of the European championships for the Juniors and under 23 year olds, the team of the German Canoeing Association made good use of the home advantage they had. In the team disciplines they won 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal and with that took the leader board of the most successful country so far these championships. Other countries that have won a title today were: Poland, France, Slovenia and the Czech Republic, they all took one title. |

(jam) On the first day of the Junior and Under 23 European Canoe Slalom Championships 2010, at the ‘Kanupark Markkleeberg’, the program was the qualification round for all individual categories. The spectators, gathered at the state of the art course, were treated to some high quality racing for the best 20 spots in each category. Those places are good to get into the semi final rounds, which will be held on Saturday. The German team started the day with 30 boats and were happy to see them all go trough to the semi finals. |

(jam) The junior and under 23 European championships 2010 at the Canoeing park of Markkleeberg are officially opened. With a colorful and joyful opening ceremony on the courtyard of the BELANTIS, Leipzig’s most loved amusement park, the competition for the talents in canoeing started of in a special setting. Right after the official part, about 500 contestants, trainers and helpers swarmed of in to the park to enjoy themselves discovering the rides of BELANTIS, from the new roller coaster “HURACAN” till „Götterflug“ which means “flight of the gods”. |

The Kanupark Markkleeberg, near the city of Leipzig, is going to be the location for the junior and under 23 European championships in wild water canoeing from the 4th till the 8th of August 2010. 30 countries will send their most promising athletes to compete for the total of 16 titles in the junior and under 23 class. With an expected total of 400 athletes, the attractive Olympic wild water sport has 3 competition days in which the titles will be divided. It's the first time ever that the German state of Saxony will host an international championship, but for sure not a surprise choice by the international federation. Kanupark Markkleeberg has one of the most modern wild water courses in the world and it will be a spectacular event, on a state of the art location. The organizing Canoeing association of Saxony together with the help of the local heroes and the Leipzig Canoe Club are not only hoping for a successful event but are also aiming for medals and titles. The junior and under 23 European Championships are the step stone towards great success and international glory as proven by Alexander Grimm Olympic Champion, Jasmin Schornberg World Champion and Leipzig's bronze medal winner on both World- and European Championships Jan Benzien, whom are all former competitors and gold medalists of this event. |
